Founded under a partnership in 1962 by Phil knight and bill bowerman the Nike Company was initially known as the “blue ribbon sports.” Then the company’s ultimate goal was to supply to the American consumers high quality and low cost Japanese sports shoes’ as to break Germany’s monopoly in that industry.

Nike as a brand plays a key role in today’s sports and athletics apparel and equipment industry. Since Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman established the company under a partnership in the year 1962, it has progressed a lot.

Reebok Company, which is the main competitor of the Nike brand has also, celebrities’ endorsing its brand and they include50 Cent, Missy Elliot Kelly, Shakira Venus William among others (Soylent Communications, 2010). These celebrities are from all spheres of life and they include reality stars, musicians, models athletes, and actors.

In conclusion, Nike as a brand has a great value in today’s market as it has gone through many changes in its evolution. Nikes’ target market has been the young people especially the males who are the main consumers of the company’s sportswear.
