Hens' bodies are covered in feathers, and they have wings that mainly stay tucked alongside their bodies. Even though they have wings, hens are terrible fliers!

Let's talk more about eggs for a minute. Hens lay two types of eggs: fertilized and unfertilized. In order to be fertilized, a hen needs to have a rooster around to help. This makes them sort of like the mother and father. After about three weeks, fertilized eggs eventually hatch into baby chicks.

They really only use their wings to fly a few feet very low to the ground, occasionally flying high enough to jump over a fence and even into a tree. You might also be wondering what hens eat. Well, they use their pointy beaks to eat plants and vegetables, seeds, insects, and small animals, like lizards and mice.
